A presentation on our new Strategic Plan: 2017-2019 will be the after lunch topic. Our plan includes three goals: Develop and facilitate co-creator culture in the Mass Library Community; Build Capacity for Marketing & Communications; and Position the library community for future readiness. Abby Straus, our strategic planning consultant, will lead members in a participatory exercise in co-creator culture.
Here are all the materials you need to prepare for the MLS 2016 business meeting and the accompanying program.
Stronger Together Award
Since 2010, the Massachusetts Library System has endeavored to support a state-wide library community through our continuing education, advisory and resource sharing efforts. We believe that each of our members benefit from sharing knowledge, skills and resources, and that doing so benefits those who live, work, and play in Massachusetts. This year we begin a tradition of recognizing within the Massachusetts library community those celebrated qualities that do, truly, make us Stronger Together.
Betty Johnson, MLS President and Henry Tormoreno, Vice President presented the Stronger Together Award to two outstanding librarians, Jackie Rafferty (Paul Pratt Memorial Library) and Dave Slater (Old Colony Library Network) for their substantial contributions to strengthening the Massachusetts library community.
Our keynote speaker is John Palfrey, Head of School at Phillips Academy. We’ll have copies of his book, BiblioTech: Why libraries matter more than ever in the age of Google, for sale and signing after lunch. (Check or credit card only please). I agree with Wendy’s review on Goodreads, “This is an important book. John Palfrey has been part of several important information initiatives (the Digital Public Library of America, the Berkman Centre, and the library at Harvard Law), and he brings all of this experience to bear in his analysis of the challenges and opportunities facing libraries.”
