Communities Responding to Extreme Weather (CREW) is spreading word about their week-long initiative focused on climate preparedness education, events, and enthusiasm. Every year, during the last week of September, city departments, community groups, and CREW Hubs of all kinds organize events and raise awareness about climate change and opportunities to build climate resilience. This includes everything from week-long book clubs to emergency kit workshops, pollinator garden plantings to heat-and-health panel discussions.
This year’s theme is Caring for the Earth, Yourself, and your Community. The climate crisis is not isolated to the environment. The physical and emotional impacts can leave lasting effects on you and your community, which makes practicing care more vital than ever. We have an opportunity with this year’s Climate Prep Week to:
explore and expand the relationship between climate impacts and health, both physical and mental,
center, support, and care for communities that are most impacted by climate events and most intimately connected to actions that heal and repair, and
share practices, projects, and programs that (re)connect us with nature and deepen our appreciation, awe, and care for our earth.
