What is Land Acknowledgement?

A Land Acknowledgement is a formal statement that recognizes shows respect to the Indigenous peoples as traditional residents and stewards of lands. The statement highlights the enduring relationship between Indigenous peoples, their traditional territories, and that it is an honor to reside on their lands and understand the history and how our place in it developed. They can be verbal or written statements, or presented visually as a part of programming.
