Climate Prep Week 2022: Resources & Program Ideas

by Gabrielle Griffis on 2022-08-04T15:25:23-04:00 | 0 Comments

This year’s Climate Prep Week theme is The Planet’s Health and Yours: Facing the Invisible Impacts of Climate Change. As CREW notes on their website, the purpose of this year’s theme is to focus on “the many ways that extreme weather and climate change manifest outside of the most noticeable disasters and disruptions. From the toll that climate anxiety & grief can take on mental health to how the invisible threat of extreme heat is most powerfully felt in historically redlined and disenfranchised communities.”

CREW was recently featured in a two-part documentary series on WCVB5 about Climate Justice in Boston.

Watch the clips here:

The Blue Marble Librarians have put together a few program ideas on this year’s theme to help libraries plan their events, including a specially curated book list you can print out and share with your patrons. Your library may also want to do a discussion on one of these books as they include many new and interesting titles about climate anxiety, nature therapy, and public health. You can also use the How to Prepare for Climate Change book discussion guide created by the Massachusetts Library System and the Blue Marble Librarians.

In addition to book discussions, here are a few of our other program ideas:

Kiss the Ground2040The Magnitude of All Things

Cooked Survival by Zip Code, Girls for Future, Living the Change

  • A World Cafe Discussion

  • A Preparedness 101 Event

If you are unable to host a program of your own, you can always sign on to promote, support, or show one of CREW’s Central Events for the year. Visit CREW’s Climate Prep Week 2022 page to find out what central events are available this year (they are still in the process of finalizing these events, so there are more to come!).

Among the central events for 2022 are:

Always feel free to reach out to the Blue Marble Librarians if you have questions about these events or how to get involved in general. To reach BML’s 2022 Organizer, Corey Farrenkopf, send an email over to crfarrenkopf@clamsnet.org, and don't forget to register your event with CREW to get your program listed on the Climate Prep Week Map
