The Massachusetts Library System is collaborating with the Massachusetts Higher Education Consortium (MHEC) to provide consortium pricing for library supplies and materials.
MHEC is a New England-wide purchasing consortium open to all public and private institution of higher education, municipalities, schools and educational organizations throughout Massachusetts, Maine, Vermont, New Hampshire, Rhode Island and Connecticut. MHEC uses its large member base and procurement expertise to negotiate high cost-savings for members. MLS works closely with MHEC to ensure the products that libraries purchase are available at the best prices possible.
MLS and MHEC currently work together on four contracts:
All MLS Members are eligible to use these contracts whether or not they are also members of MHEC. MHEC conducts its procurement in a fair, open and competitive manner consistent with the MA Chapter 30B requirements. The MHEC Contract Managers and staff have completed MCPPO training and/or are fully designated MCPPO's (Massachusetts Certified Public Purchasing Officials).
By becoming a member of the MLS/MHEC Purchasing Cooperative you are not limited to only the library related contracts, you are open to all of the contracts that MHEC has to offer. Here is a list of just a few of the contracts that your library may be interested in:
Educational Supplies - Chalk boards, Athletic equipment, and Graduation accessories
Furniture - Shelves, Lockers, Moveable screens, Mattress covers, and Lounge furniture
Travel Services - Vehicle rental, Airport parking and transportation
