Language Line Solutions Overview

Massachusetts is home to many different languages. To help you serve your patrons, regardless of the language they speak, the Massachusetts Library System (MLS) is pleased to offer MLS public library members the opportunity to access over the phone interpretation services at no cost.

Interpretation services are provided by Language Line Solutions, the nation's largest over the phone interpretation service.
Interpretation over the phone is a great option when you need to communicate with a patron who speaks another language.
Language Line Solutions has interpreters for 240+ languages, and they can typically connect you with a professional interpreter in a matter of seconds.

At this time, Language Line Solutions over the phone interpretation services are only available to MLS public library members.

This over the phone interpretation service is a pilot project and supports Initiative 1 Goal 3 and Initiative 3 Goal 1 of the MLS Strategic Plan.

How to Access Language Line Solutions

If you are interested in accessing Language Line Solutions for your library, please follow these steps:

Fill out the Language Line Solutions Application Form. The person who fills out the application must be:
- In a management level position at your library (e.g., director, assistant director, department head).
- Listed in the MBLC directory listing for your library (https://mblc.state.ma.us/directories/libraries/).
When your application is approved, go to the password protected Language Line Solutions LibGuide.
Review the information and documents on the Language Line Solutions LibGuide.
Contact us if you have any questions about how to access Language Line Solutions.
Fill out the Language Line Solutions Evaluation Form to tell us about your experience.

Language Line Solutions should only be used by MLS member public libraries when working with library patrons. Any other use is unauthorized and prohibited. For example, this interpretation service is not intended to be used for document or website translation.

Please note: when you submit your application, you will receive automated emails from learn@masslibsystem.org. We will typically use this email address when communicating with you. Please add this email address to your Safe Senders List to ensure that our emails do not end up in your junk folder.
