Learning Services: MindEdge Certificate Program

Welcome to Learning Services at the Massachusetts Library System. On this page, you'll find info about our staff, our services, and links to guides about classes, topics, and services we offer.

MindEdge Certificate Overview

MindEdge is a premier provider of online certificate programs for a variety of business topics. Since its founding by Harvard and MIT educators in 1998, MindEdge has served around four million learners. MindEdge certificate programs and courses are currently offered by many educational institutions (such as UMass Global, Drexel University, and Louisiana State University) and associations (such as CFTEA, HRCI, AIGA, and AARP). The Massachusetts Library System (MLS) is proud to provide selected MindEdge certificate programs to staff at MLS member libraries at no cost through the MindEdge Certificate Grant.

MindEdge certificate programs:

  • Are asynchronous, so you can work through the certificate program materials at your own pace
  • Begin any time, whenever you are ready to start
  • May include readings, videos, quizzes, simulations, and exams
  • Must be completed within a defined period of time (which is detailed in the certificate program's description)
  • Typically require several hours of work each week

MindEdge offers credits from a variety of national credentialing institutions, such as IACET, PMI, SHRM, HCRI, and ATD, upon course completion.

To see a list of all the MindEdge certificate programs that are available to MLS members at no cost, check out our MindEdge Certificate Program List.

If you are interested in taking a MindEdge certificate program, please review the Conditions for the MindEdge Certificate Grant, which lay out the terms and conditions for the grant. Once you have read and understand this information, you are welcome to fill out the MindEdge Certificate Grant Application.

The MindEdge Certificate Grant program supports Initiative 1, Goal 3 and Initiative 2, Goal 2 of the MLS Strategic Plan.

Conditions for the MindEdge Certificate Grant

Note to screen reader users: please use the arrow keys instead of the tab key to navigate the tabs of this box.

This section contains the terms and conditions for the MindEdge Certificate Grant. Please read this information thoroughly before submitting a MindEdge Certificate Grant Application. There are six tabs of information:

  1. Introduction (the page you are currently on)
  2. Eligible Participants
  3. Eligible Programs
  4. Application
  5. Approval
  6. Survey

MLS reserves the right to modify these conditions. Contact us if you have any questions. When applying for a MindEdge Certificate Grant, you will be asked to verify that you have read and understand this information.

All staff who are regularly employed by an MLS member library are eligible to apply.

Both full-time and part-time staff are eligible to apply. Substitutes are not eligible to apply.

Unpaid library workers and supporters (including trustees, friends of the library, retirees, and volunteers) are not eligible to apply.

If you are unsure whether your library is an MLS member, check the MBLC Library Database.  All libraries listed in this database are members of MLS.

MindEdge Certificate Grants allow MLS member library staff to take selected MindEdge certificate programs at no cost to them.

You may apply for a grant to take any MindEdge certificate program that is listed in the below MindEdge Certificate Program List.

Please note: We recognize that MindEdge offers certificate programs that are not included in the MindEdge Certificate Program List. At this time, we are only offering those that are included on this list. If sufficient demand exists for other MindEdge certificate programs, we will consider offering them in the future.

Before you apply, be sure that you have ample capacity in your schedule to complete the certificate program. Completion of a certificate program requires a significant amount of work over a sustained period of time. If now is not the right time, consider pursuing the certificate program later.

If you want to apply to take a MindEdge certificate program, you must submit a complete MindEdge Certificate Grant Application. Applications will not be considered complete until all required information is received by MLS.

MLS will review complete applications on a rolling basis. These applications will typically be approved or denied within 10 business days. If you do not hear from us within 10 business days after you submit a complete application, please contact Sarah Donnelly (MLS' Event & Project Manager), at sdonnelly@masslibsystem.org, to check on the status of your application.

The decision to approve or deny an application is made at the sole discretion of MLS and is based upon the criteria set forth in these Conditions for the MindEdge Certificate Grant.

If your application is approved, MLS will enroll you in your MindEdge certificate program and MindEdge will send you enrollment confirmation. The enrollment confirmation will come from support@mindedge.com. Add this email to your Safe Senders List to ensure that notifications do not end up in your junk folder.

Please note: You should not register directly through MindEdge. Individuals who register through MindEdge will not be reimbursed under this grant. MLS will work directly with MindEdge to enroll you in the certificate program and handle payment on your behalf.

Approval is based on a first-come, first-served, non-competitive basis.

You may only take one MindEdge certificate program at a time. If you wish to apply for approval to take an additional certificate program, you must complete your current certificate program and complete the MindEdge Certificate Grant Survey. See Tab 6 for information about the MindEdge Certificate Grant Survey.

You may receive approval to take up to four MindEdge certificate programs every fiscal year (July 1 - June 30).

Once the funding budgeted for the MindEdge Certificate Grant program has been spent for the fiscal year, no additional MindEdge Certificate Grants will be considered during that fiscal year.

After your application has been approved, if you are unable to complete the certificate program for any reason, you must inform MLS as soon as possible.

Within 30 days after the end of your MindEdge certificate program, you must complete a MindEdge Certificate Grant Survey. This survey helps MLS understand the impact of the grants and should take 5-10 minutes to complete. Completion of this survey is a requirement of the grant.

Failure to complete the survey will result in MLS declining any application you submit for any grant funds for the next two fiscal years or until you complete the survey, whichever comes first.

Information from completed surveys will be anonymized and may be used by MLS to continuously improve the MindEdge Certificate Grant program and for reporting and marketing purposes.

Please note: The MindEdge Certificate Grant Survey is different from any evaluations that you may complete within the MindEdge certificate program itself. Even if you complete evaluations within your certificate program, you are still required to complete the MindEdge Certificate Grant Survey provided by MLS.
