Here you will find all the resources you need to create a plan that will set the future vision of your library, whether it is a public, school, academic, or special library. MLS is available to help you through the various stages of planning.
For more information on what MLS can do for you during the process, please refer to our Strategic Planning Services Policy below.
For those who are submitting your new Strategic/Long-Range Plans to the MBLC on October 1, 2022, you still must submit an Action Plan to MBLC by Dec. 1, 2022.
This October 1 deadline is only for libraries that plan to apply for the following year's LSTA grant round. If you are not applying for a grant, then plans can be submitted at any time.
All Strategic Plans can now be uploaded directly on the MBLC website. Please contact Robert Favini, MBLC, robert.favini@mass.gov, with any questions.
Libraries must have an approved Strategic Plan on file with the Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners in order to apply for both Library Services and Technology Act funds and the Massachusetts Library Construction Loan program. Libraries that have done planning have repeatedly confirmed how important the process has been in their local efforts to gain recognition, funding and staffing for accomplishing the goals and objectives set out in their plans. Questions regarding the requirements and deadlines for submitting your plan, go to the MBLC Planning Page.
These are the handouts used in the yearly Strategic Planning sessions.
