A guide to resource sharing activities and services at MLS and beyond.

Document Delivery via Boston Public Library

Boston Public Library provides document delivery service for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.

Use document delivery to obtain copies of articles, book chapters, replacement pages, etc.

As of March 2021, ILLiad requires a 4 digit PIN. If you are having trouble logging in, you should change your password/PIN to a 4-digit PIN. We recommend you use the last 4 digits of your library card number. If you have any questions or if you are unable to log in, email interlibraryloan@bpl.org.

Statistics

For Document Delivery statistics, visit the Statistics page.

General Journal Search

  • Use the search field on the right (Search Title/ISSN Only)

  • Often provides journal website, which helps locate missing details such as page numbers

Medical Journal Search

PubMed

  • Use Single Citation Matcher with any available keywords or numbers and will hopefully find an article match
  • Once you find the relevant citation, use the “Display Settings” drop down and choose Medline where you’ll find the ISSNs, for both print and electronic editions. Please provide the print ISSN.
  • If you submit a request and the citation lists the article as “Epub before print” we will cancel and ask that you re-submit when PubMed indicates it is in print.
  • Occasionally, you might find that the article is available full-text and free thus eliminating the need for submitting a request.

Older Journal Search

For older journals, try searching the Union list of serials in libraries of the United States and Canada.

Digitized by Internet Archive, the volumes below are from the Boston Public Library's collection and contain marginal notations indicating BPL holdings and old BPL call numbers.
